Stainless Steel Snorkel Buying Guide: Sizes, Entry Styles & Finishes
24 August 2026
A stainless steel snorkel is a buy-once part, so it's worth getting the spec right the first time. This guide walks through the four decisions — entry style, size, finish, single or twin — and how they apply to your vehicle.
1. Entry style: short, mid or long
Short-entry snorkels enter the guard low and suit most dual-cab touring, dusty roads and light water crossings — the pick for Hilux, Ranger, D-Max, BT-50, Navara and Amarok daily-driven rigs.
Mid- and long-entry snorkels carry the intake higher up the A-pillar before it turns into the guard. Choose these for deeper crossings and sustained heavy dust — popular on Patrol GQ/GU and 80 Series builds.
2. Head size: 4", 4.5" or 5"
4" round suits most standard diesels. 4.5" teardrop steps up airflow for bigger or modified engines — the most popular choice on tuned utes. 5" is reserved for the 70 Series V8. If you're between sizes, our snorkel options page breaks it down per engine, or ask us.
3. Finish: brushed or black
Brushed silver is raw 304 stainless — scratches polish out, zero maintenance. Powdercoated black comes with or without welds showing, plus satin and textured options on selected models. Black hides in the bodywork; brushed makes a feature of the fabrication.
4. Single or twin
Twin snorkels double the intake area and make a statement. For most tourers a correctly-sized single is plenty; twins earn their keep on high-horsepower builds — and on looks.
Don't forget the airbox
The snorkel is half the intake. Pair it with a sealed stainless airbox for deep-water security, or an OEM airbox adapter to connect to your standard airbox. Combo kits save 5% — see the combo kit deal.
Fitting
Every snorkel ships with a fitting kit — template, hardware and hoses — and most handy owners fit one in a couple of hours using our install guides. In Melbourne, we offer workshop fitting, with trusted fitters in other states.
