Before you start
  • Check your template first. The label must show your vehicle and snorkel size.
  • Lining up the template is the critical step. Take your time. If it's out, the snorkel may not fit.
  • Silicone spray is safe and recommended when you fit the silicone joiners. It helps them slide on.
  • A snorkel doesn't make your vehicle waterproof. Check for leaks and never go deeper than your manufacturer's wading depth.

Want it done for you? Book a professional fitting or find a recommended fitter. See our installation policy for warranty cover.

Prep and mark

1

Prep the vehicle

Park on level ground and disconnect the battery's negative terminal.

Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it on stands. Remove the inner guard (fender) liner on the driver's side. It comes out for every snorkel install.

Mask the guard, A-pillar and bonnet edge around the snorkel area to protect the paint while you mark, drill and cut.

Read the whole guide before you start cutting.

2

Remove the factory washer bottle

The washer bottle and the ECU sit where the snorkel plumbing goes, so on the NP300 both get relocated.

Take off the front driver's-side wheel for room. With the inner guard liner out, undo the three screws holding the washer bottle, unplug the pump and wiring, and lift the bottle out.

Don't cut or extend any wires.

3

Check and cut out your template

Unroll your template. It's rolled up inside the stainless pipe. Check the label in the corner shows your vehicle and snorkel size (e.g. NP300 4.5" DS) before you go any further.

Trim along the two edge of guard lines. Then cut out the hole along the solid black line, but leave the strip between the dashed lines. It holds the template together.

Wrong vehicle or size on the label? Stop and contact us before cutting.

4

Line up the template

Line up the top trimmed edge with the gap between the bonnet and guard, and the side edge with the gap between the door and guard.

Hold it in place with magnets while you line it up (we recommend them). No magnets? Masking tape works too. Keep it flat and don't stretch it.

Edge of guard lines: the edge of the guard sits on the outside of the line.
This is the most important step. Take your time here. The template sets where the snorkel sits. If it isn't lined up correctly, the snorkel may not fit.
5

Mark the cut line

Trace around the inside of the hole with a fine marker.

Remove the template and join up the line across the gap left by the strip.

Measure twice, cut once. The black line is the maximum cut.

Cut the guard

6

Drill starter holes

Drill a few holes just inside the marked line. They give the saw blade somewhere to start.

Check what's behind the guard before drilling. Keep clear of wiring, hoses and the washer bottle.
7

Cut the hole and protect the edge

Cut along the marked line with an air saw. Stay just inside the line and file back to it if needed.

Clean away all metal filings. They rust on paint quickly.

Paint the bare metal edge with touch-up paint. No paint on hand? Spray the edge with lanolin instead.

8

Fit the pinch weld

Press the 950 mm thick pinch weld all the way around the cut edge of the outer guard. It seals the hole and protects the snorkel. The 500 mm thick pinch weld is for the inner guard later.

Mount the bracket

9

Bolt the bracket to the snorkel

Fix the A-pillar bracket to the snorkel with two M5 bolts (3 mm Allen key).

The side of the bracket with three holes must face the same way as the snorkel's entry into the guard.

Fit it with the CANNA FAB logo facing out so it reads the right way: three bolts go to the car and two to the snorkel.

10

Trial fit and mark the bracket

Feed the snorkel into the guard hole. Line up the top of the bracket with the pinch weld (door seal flange) on the A-pillar.

Set the bracket as far back and down as you can, but make sure the door still opens and closes freely. Then trace around the bracket onto the pillar.

11

Mark the three holes

Remove the snorkel and unbolt the bracket. Hold the bracket inside your traced outline and mark the centre of each of the three slots.

Double-check the spacing: 50 mm between holes, 100 mm end to end.

12

Drill the A-pillar

Drill a 9 mm hole at each mark. Touch up the bare metal.

13

Seal and fit the rivnuts, then the bracket

Put a dab of weather-rated Sikaflex or marine silicone in each hole. It stops water leaking into the pillar.

Set the M6 rivnuts from the bolt bag with a rivnut tool, then bolt the bracket to the pillar with the M6 bolts (4 mm Allen key).

Air intake plumbing

14

Remove the factory airbox

Lift the bonnet and unplug the MAF (air flow) sensor.

Undo the bolts and wire clips holding the airbox, then lift it out for access. You'll refit it shortly.

Fitting a CannaFab airbox too? Install it now using its own guide, then carry on from step 18.
15

Relocate the ECU

The ECU and washer bottle always have to be relocated on the NP300. The CannaFab ECU bracket and washer bottle come with the CannaFab airbox, and are an optional extra with the snorkel on its own.

With the airbox out, move the ECU onto the ECU bracket. Keeping the factory airbox? Relocate the ECU as shown in the stock airbox video, and fit the 3.5" stock airbox adapter.

Some models have an electrical box in the way. Unbolt it and move it to the side of the engine bay using an existing factory hole. No drilling needed.

Keep all wiring and hoses clear of heat and moving parts.

16

Fit the new washer bottle

Feed the washer hose back through the hole in the side guard and into the second factory hole into the engine bay. Drill a 27 mm hole directly under the new washer bottle position and feed the washer plug through it.

1 L bottle: drill two 7 mm holes at the bottle's mounting points and set the M5 rivnuts (or use the supplied nuts and lock washers).

3.5 L bottle: it bolts to the factory holes. No drilling needed.

Bolt the new washer bottle in, reconnect the pump and wiring, then fill it and test the washers.

Keep all wiring and hoses clear of heat and moving parts.

17

Cut the inner guard hole

From inside the engine bay, mark the inner guard hole with the NP300 snorkel hole locator, then cut it with a hole saw one size up from the silicone hose (a 3.5" hose takes a 4" hole saw).

Paint the bare edge, then fit the 500 mm thick pinch weld.

18

Fit the plumbing kit inside the guard

Refit the airbox and plug the MAF sensor back in.

The plumbing kit goes inside the guard, joining the snorkel to the inner guard hole and the airbox inlet. It uses the 100 mm straight silicone, 90° silicone bend and 130 mm stainless pipe, with a hose clamp on every joint.

Dry-fit everything first, then tighten the clamps.

A light spray of silicone spray helps the silicone joiners slide on. It's safe on silicone.

Refit, tighten and tidy

Tighten every hose clamp. Refit the inner guard liner, trimming it if it touches the plumbing.

Peel off the masking tape, lower the vehicle and reconnect the battery. Start the engine and check there are no warning lights.

Twin kits: passenger side

The passenger-side snorkel is for looks. It isn't connected to the air intake, so there's no plumbing on this side.

Fit it the same way as the driver's side: repeat steps 3–13 and step 19 using your second template (the mirrored one). Check its label first. Before you cut, check the snorkels will sit level with each other when you look from the front.
